Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA) said at the end of last week that he didn't think a Supreme Court nominee who wanted to overturn Roe v. Wade would be confirmed by the Senate. Bam. Big storm blows in from the Christian right. The Evangelicals attack Specter and say they want to stop him from become chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee which he is in line to become via seniority.
Specter, who is pro-choice, says that he was simply stating a political fact since Senate Republicans don't have the votes to defeat a filibuster. Karl Rove said on Fox News on Sunday that he thought Specter would be fair. Interesting to have Rove speaking for the Bush administration.
Here's the CNN story on the fight.
