In the name of fighting terrorism, Russian President Vladimir Putin says he's going to do what the secretive, authoritarian Bush team can only dream about. Putin plans to do away with elections for governors and instead nominate them himself to be elected by local legislatures instead of by popular vote. He also says he'll end elections for the Duma (the lower house of parliament). Above, Dick Cheney, George W. Bush and Karl Rove take in the news and for a moment wonder -- could we do something like that -- but then say Naaaaa.
