George W. Bush wanted Zell Miller to campaign with him over the weekend, but a family illness kept Miller from doing so, according to a piece in Monday's New York Times by Richard W. Stevenson. Bush hopes to have Miller with him soon.
Stevenson wrote in the Times, "Campaigning here [W. Va.] on Sunday, Mr. Bush invoked Mr. Miller's support as a reason Democrats and independents could feel comfortable voting for the Republican ticket. Mr. Bush has used a version of the same line at every campaign stop he has made since the end of his convention on Thursday night, and her, as in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Iowa and Ohio in recent days, it brought rousing cheers from the audience." I suspect those crowds were already the Bush faithful and not Zell Miller converts. 09.07.04
