Thursday's New York Time's lead story was on the speculation that George W. Bush will drop Dick Cheney from the Republican ticket. The rumors have titillated the Inside-the-Beltway crowd for weeks. They persist because of Cheney's resounding unpopularity with Americans.
The rumors say that Rudy Guilliani or John McCain will replace Cheney as Bush's runningmate. Bush would win the election with either of those two, the theory goes. This comes about after Cheney's new doctor declares him unfit to run for office. However, both the White House and Cheney deny there'll be any change.
