Donald Rumsfeld showed up in Iraq on a damage-control mission last week. However, the damage keeps crashing down on the Bush administration. Today The New Yorker magazine hits the stands with a new article on torture in Iraq. The piece claims that interrogation was allowed to become harsher in Iraq -- in at least one instance called "fear up harsh" -- based on a directive from Rumsfeld made months ago.
Still, the Bush team may have been handed a gift. The Supreme Court refused to review gay and lesbian marriage in Massachusetts, thus gay and lesbian marriage begins there today. Karl Rove must have felt like he couldn't buy a break on the Rumsfeld story only to end up chortling over gay marriage pushing Rummy off the front page, at least temporarily.
