"Pithy, witty, funny and on top of the news. What blogs are to political commentary, the Daily Scribble is to the editorial cartoon. I keep coming back for more."  Joshua Micah Marshall, Talking Points Memo.

"Though Charles Pugsley Fincher would do well to find a stage name, his daily scribbles are nothing to scoff at. Plain and simple, on lined yellow scratch paper, yet they speak volumes." Jacob Wheeler, Utne.com.

"I think Thadeus & Weez is wonderful. You've hooked me." Jim Lehrer, The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer.

The Illustrated Daily Scribble is an ultra-current blog of my raw sketches about the day's news drawn on legal pads. I'll post new material here Monday through Friday -- excepting Thursday. Occasionally, my day job will prevent posting. Yesterday's cartoon is now in the archive: Gonzales over his head in the torture issue engages in self-waterboarding. [ Archive ].

SCRIBBLE FINISHES NO. 2 IN VOTING: Voting is over at About.com for best Web cartoon of 2004. Scribble -- with 30% of the vote -- finished number 2 behind winner Jib Jab -- with 33% of the vote. Thanks to everyone who voted for Scribble. Charles Fincher.

The confirmation hearing began yesterday on White House Counsel Alberto R. Gonzales for Attorney General. I thought he gave a good performance. He's such a smiley, well-spoken guy that it's hard to believe his role in the legal vetting of torture. The Washington Post had an editorial on Thursday on the Gonzales hearing. Update: Click here to see today's Washington Post editorial that is critical of Gonzales's first day of testimony.

Click here for Wednesday's Scribble on Gonzales engaging in the odd sport of self-waterboarding. Also, see Tuesday's Scribble for yet another confirmation cartoon that addresses the Justice Department's recent issue of a new memo calling torture torture and rescinding the old memos. It's purpose is thought to be to provide cover for Gonzales during the confirmation process by getting the issue over with.

Additionally, here is the first Scribble on the Gonzales memo and a second one related to it, both from several months ago.
