A besieged Tom DeLay grabbed onto the Terry Schiavo feeding-tube controversy in a brazen move to shore up his political life. After midnight under his leadership, House Republicans passed the private bill that the Senate under Bill Frist had approved earlier in the day to give federal court jurisdiction to the Schiavo case. George W. Bush signed it immediately.

Forget about state's rights and activist judges. Well, I guess that was already clear from the Florida Supreme Court's being overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court to elect George W. Bush. Otherwise, the whole matter strikes me as one of personal tragedy that I wish the family and husband could somehow have worked out privately.
